I was born and raised in a small village in Northern Germany, 100 km south of Hamburg. I studied home economics and have a degree in institutional cooking. Shortly after my studies, I worked as an au pair in New York City. After that time, I worked various jobs in the food industry in Germany and New York City, mostly in restaurants. In Germany, I became a chef upon completing my apprenticeship at the Hamburg Marriott Hotel where I continued to work as chef and then also at Anna e Sebastiano and Marinehof restaurants. In 1996, I became a stay-at-home mother to my three daughters, now school-aged: Frieda, Louise and Esther. In 2000, my family and I moved to San Diego, and I joined the Rasselbande community as the School Cook in 2011, a job I greatly enjoy.
