Tanja Skousen ~ Lead Teacher
I started my journey here at Rasselbande in spring 2015. I had entered the field of early child hood education many years ago when I started my studies at the “Fachhoschule fuer Sozialpadagogik” in Germany. I have since earned my Early Childhood Education Teacher Certificate from the UCLA and completed my Baccalaureate Degree in Human Development- Early Childhood Development and Education.
I moved to the US, specifically Tucson, AZ in 2003. Where I married and started my family. My Son, Husband and many four legged and feathered Friends moved to San Diego in 2010. Here the opportunity arose for me to stay home with our son and to round out my education. In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family. I am also passionate about running on the beautiful trails that San Diego and the surrounding area have to offer.
The true joy of my work is the opportunity to guide children through their development and to create an environment in which their stage of development drives their learning.

I grew up in the state of Saxony, in the east of Germany. When I was little, I had this thought, “I wanna do something good in the world.” After exploring many different internships in the wide field of social work, I came to the conclusion that I would love nothing more than to guide the youngest among us and be a part of their first steps in life. I never regretted this decision. To pursue my chosen career path, I moved to Leipzig in Germany and went to the “Johanniter-Akademie” to get my first degree in General Education. From the moment of graduation in 2014 I have been working with children ever since. I've gained experience in early childhood education’s vast variety. I worked in an elementary school with first graders for 7 years and also in a German Montessori Kindergarten for a couple of years. During my career I continued my education and attended the “Diploma University” to achieve my B.A. degree in Early Childhood Education and also a B.A. in Leadership and Management. But how did I end up in beautiful San Diego? In 2016 I took a sabbatical to travel for one year. I moved to Washington D.C. as an Au Pair. I traveled around and like so many, I fell in love with our beautiful state of California. Once seen, it was never forgotten. So, I took a job offer in San Francisco, California and spent one year teaching Kindergarten. It was a coincidence that I found “Die Rasselbande.” But I'm glad I was curious enough to go fly down San Diego and get to know the amazing staff and the director Martina in person. So I ended up packing my things again and now I am more than happy and motivated to join the community of “Die Rasselbande Preschool"
